The FBI report found about 1.4 million reported violent crimes across the United States last year, 0.7 percent lower than the previous year.
The figures also show that the number of burglaries, car thefts and other property crimes dropped by 1.4. percent, making 2006 the fifth year of property crime decline.
According to the data, murders decreased by 0.6 percent and rape also dropped 2.5 percent. Police across the country marked 14million arrests in 2007.
The Justice Department attributed the decline to crackdowns on gangs and gun crimes by law enforcement authorities, and still called for more funding to continue such momentum.
