U.S. Navy orders more airborne electronic attack systems

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 29 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. Navy had ordered more airborne electronic attack systems for its overseas operations from Northrop Grumman with an estimated value more than125 million dollars, the Los Angeles-based defense contractor said Monday.

The systems, which have been used by the Navy to support U.S. military operations in Afghanistan and Iraq, are designed to identify, degrade and destroy radar-guided air defense and communications systems, according to a statement by the company.

The new order is the fourth set of systems the Navy has ordered from Northrop. The first of nine new kits will be delivered in the third quarter of 2010.

These equipment will be installed on U.S. Marine Corps Prowler aircraft based at the Marine Corps Air Station at Cherry Point, North Carolina, the company said.
