Nikkei average closes nearly 1% lower

TOKYO, Sept. 26 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks closed lower Friday, with the benchmark Nikkei index down 0.94 percent.

The Nikkei average dropped 113.37 points to 11,893.16 from Thursday.

The Topix index on the Tokyo Stock Exchange went down 6.06 points, or 0.53 percent, to 1,147.89.

On the First Section, declining issues outnumbered advancing ones 1,307 to 341, with 61 others remaining unchanged.

Trading volume on the main section went up to 1,823.72 million shares from 1,592.33 million shares Thursday.

The TSE's Second Section index fell 15.36 points, or 0.63 percent, to 2,429.65 on a volume of 49.51 million shares.

On the Osaka Securities Exchange, the near-term December Nikkei225 index futures contract shed 80 points to 11,960.
